Morgan & Chris are getting married at The Farmhouse in Montgomery, TX this August! Morgan and I have hit it off from the start & over coffee, I knew she was a true Kate Elizabeth bride! Morgan & Chris have been together for 3 years, meeting through a mutual friend, and plan to have a relaxed & beautiful wedding day with their family and friends!

I was truly inspired by this engagement session. The softness in the colors, the light dancing through the trees, the florals… everything! Not to mention this couple is absolutely perfect! Because of how amazing this session went, I want to use this blog post to share some tips on what to wear to your engagement session and how to prepare for it!

WHAT TO WEAR:

I have learned that for most, this is probably the most stressful part of your engagement session and I get it! But hopefully, these TOP 3 tips help you to see that choosing what to wear isn’t all that bad. There are so many options and we know this can be overwhelming. But please know that what it all comes down to is what YOU are comfortable in!

1. LIGHT COLORS/PATTERNS ARE YOUR FRIENDS

This is probably the biggest tip that I can give. My personal style of photography thrives on light colors. To me, they photograph the most beautiful. Neon colors reflect terribly on every skin tone, dark colors take away from the light and airy way that I shoot & distracting patterns…. are just that…. distracting. We want your engagement session to only focus on the two of you and your love for each other. Although, we suggest light colors people often think that you have to be matchy-matchy or avoid anything that isn’t white. This just isn’t the case! Sometimes even a navy sports coat or grey pants look amazing when coordinated properly. We love to photograph neutrals such as white, cream, ivory, champagne & greys. As well as pastels like blush, lavender, light yellows, baby blue, light green, peach, etc. Floral prints are also a favorite! We LOVE the way a floral print looks in a natural setting with trees. It’s beautiful!

2.  DRESS IT UP

Along with light colors, we also feel that dressing your engagement session UP is more, in our opinion, magazine worthy. And who doesn’t want to look like they belong in a magazine? Am I right?! Now, this doesn’t mean you HAVE to wear a suit and tie (we definitely aren’t against it, though) but this is such a special time and we feel it should be brought up a notch. Dresses are so flattering on every body type! We strongly suggest wearing a dress for our brides but we also know that everyone isn’t particularly a dress person. If this is so, white jeans, light colored pants and a cute top with wedges will be just as beautiful! As for our grooms we love to see them in khakis/slacks and a button up with dress shoes! If you want to pair it with a jacket and/or a sweater we think that looks amazing too! We want you to look and FEEL like a million bucks!

3. PROFESSIONAL HAIR AND MAKEUP

I stress this part so much for several reasons. One being that put simply, professionals have a way of making us FEEL amazing. I have never left a salon feeling like I couldn’t walk a runway and we want all of our brides to feel that way with their hair and makeup. Photo makeup is also very different than everyday makeup. Trust us, you won’t regret this part!

With all this said, we also feel that you should show up to your engagement session feeling like yourself. Wear what you are comfortable with & doesn’t accentuate anything that makes you feel insecure. Although preparing for your session can be stressful and a lot of work just remember to have fun when you are shooting & to leave your session in your photographer’s hands!  They want the best for you and want to GIVE you their best. Trust their judgment & have an amazing shoot!
